As you mostly likely already know, Twitter.com is a social media site.
More specifically, it’s a micro-blogging site that allows you to keep in contact with others using 140-character posts. Some people use it to keep in touchwith friends and some use it for generating more prospects and turning them into loyal, paying customers.
You see, Twitter’s real power is that it allows you to quickly engage and interact with thousands of people across the world almost instantly. There are millions of people actively on it every single month and now it’s coming to people’s attention how Twitter can be leveraged to make more money.
If there is so much activity on Twitter, why not tap into its pool of its 60+ million users?
Imagine having access to all those people and what it could do for you and your business. Oh, and did I mention that it’s completely Free to use? Normally, getting yourself listed in a publication with over 60 million subscribers would cost you a small fortune!
Twitter provides incredible opportunities for aspiring entrepreneurs, fast-growing businesses, and it can a lot for you. You can use it to target people in your niche and develop a huge list of potential customers who are looking for an “expert” who can give them solutions to their problems. By leveraging Twitter, you can become your potential customer’s trusted go-to-expert. You can also find great joint venture partners who can help drive streams of traffic to your websites.
Here’s how you can get started now:
1. Join Twitter.com and fill out your profile. Use your real name (or pen name) and put up a good picture of yourself (preferably a headshot). Be sure to let people know a little about you and your interests by filling out your Bio (Mention some of your professional attributes followed by some personal ones). Lastly, include a link to your website in the URL section.
2. Create a few posts. Start off by “tweeting” (posting) about things that will be of interest to your target market. Also, go ahead and engage in some discussions. People like to know that you’re real and actually use Twitter to communicate with other people. Don’t post promotional links and hard-sell tweets yet. People want to get to know you before they buy from you. So instead, just make a few good contributions to your tweet timeline for now, so your page doesn’t look so blank or empty.
3. Find people in your niche. Your next step is to develop your list of followers. If you want to use Twitter for marketing purposes, then you must focus on acquiring followers. Otherwise, your Twitter marketing strategy will be ineffective. So use Twitter’s search tool to find your prospects through market- related keyword searches. Commit to investing 30 minutes a night in following these people you find. Because these followers are so targeted and recently active, your follow-back rate (the ratio of people who follow you back after you follow them) should be quite high (20% – 40%).
If you already have other lists of contacts and prospects, then blog about your Twitter profile, mention it to your mailing list, and include your Twitter link as part of your forum signature lines, postcards, etc.
4. Next, as you start accumulating some followers, you NEED to upload a professional, attention-grabbing background image. Because Twitter is such a fast-paced micro-blogging website, people are hopping on and off other people’s profiles constantly, which means you only have a few seconds to capture their attention and get them to follow you. You do this by having relevant tweets about what they’re interested in (what your target market is interested in) and by having a professional looking profile that helps position you as an expert and serves to sets you apart from the crowd.
If you do all this correctly and add value your follower’s lives, you should be able to start attracting decent numbers of followers and slowly start becoming their go-to expert on Twitter.
This will require an investment of time and energy, but it will pay off for you in the long run.
